It seems that during a time when the rights and very lives of trans and queer people in general are at stake people prefer to focus on stupid twitter discourse and infighting rather than literally ANYTHING ELSE to do.
Perhaps it was my fault for opening twitter after christmas, but whatever I want to rant. I will not speak on the blue lady twitter controversy, but it has been very disheartening and painful to see an uptick of aggression and transphobia directed towards trans men and transmaculine people in general lately. On one hand, it could be the twitter algorithm simply doing its job of locking you into a loop of dopamine rush via misery and anger (or ragebaiting you, so to speak) so that you stay longer and keep hurting yourself, but one cannot deny that a semi-popular internet figure -- and a trans one no less -- suddenly speaking ill towards trans men over a messy break up absolutely did light the fires of some people who were just ITCHING to spout their transphobia when it was most "acceptable", which is never, by the way. I just think this really shouldn't be the focus, but I've never seen more insipid and useless online discourse in my life than this particular part of the year ever. There are bigger elephants in the room! Whatever, anything for a "hit tweet" I guess.
